Participants will have an opportunity to sample local food (and drink) from the island’s producers.
Accommodation is at the beautiful
Belvedere Guest House
with a fabulous view of Brodick Bay, Brodick Castle and the Arran mountains. The menu includes local food wherever possible.
I will be teaching workshops in Creative Knitting & Weaving at the Burnside Gallery in Brodick which will tie in with tours of the island.
We will look at traditional stitches and techniques from an Arran point of view, at Celtic and Viking influences, visiting historic sites around the island to absorb the atmosphere of this magical place, each visit inspiring the next weaving and knitting session.
You can see my work on the Gallery page of this website and on The Arran Knitting Company website.
My workshops explore where knitting & weaving meet sculpture. Each person will have the opportunity to sample a variety of techniques, yarns and other raw materials to create a personal Arran portfolio.
The tours include visits to the local distillery and other food producers. There will be a special dinner at the guest house to sample the best the island has to offer.
“In the fall of 2007, I took a really marvelous Food and Fiber Tour of Ireland hosted by Kathy Brassill with Handcrafted Holidays. The experience was everything advertised and more. Kathy’s knowledge of the area and contacts with locals throughout the country really made this a special tour. The small number of people also gave us the opportunity to socialize during our rides to different places. There was just enough on our own time for individual exploration. I can recommend these tours without reservation and will look for another! Thanks Kathy!”
